Tori Finance, which issues strUSD, generates yield via a dollar-hedged carry strategy in global money markets. To give an example of how a carry strategy works: a popular carry trade strategy is converting dollars into Turkish Lira, then depositing that TRY in Turkish money markets for a very high yield even up to 40% APY in some cases. The yield is so high because TRY is devaluing very quickly against the dollar. The second step of the strategy is to hedge this currency risk using an FX Forward or FX Swap instrument, making it dollar-hedged and eliminating the currency exposure. That's how a dollar-hedged carry strategy works in simple terms. Currently, Tori's strUSD yield-bearing asset is generating 11.8% APY.Speaking of what I like about Tori Finance, the project is backed by Delphi Ventures, its founder appeared in an interview on The Edge Podcast, its smart contracts were audited by Nethermind and Sherlock, and it's partnered with Hypernative for 24/7 threat detection. That's a plus point for a new DeFi project. Now, moving on to what I like less there's no transparency around the exact strategies Tori uses to generate yield. The Turkish Lira carry trade example I gave earlier was just illustrative; we don't actually know the details of how Tori runs its dollar-hedged carry strategy. This makes it very hard to assess how risky Tori's yield generation strategy truly is. Its transparency page only shows the strUSD APY and its capital allocation across strategies money markets, delta-neutral arbitrage but without going into much detail. So I'd say there's significant room for improvement there. Finally, all things considered is it worth looping strUSD/USDC on Morpho for up to 49% APY? Overall, I tend to say yes. It's a good opportunity for me, at least in the short term. Tori's yield strategy isn't really transparent, as I mentioned, which is certainly not great but 49% APY is an insane yield that justifies the risk to me. To get this kind of yield, you need to take on some risk. That said, you don't have to agree with me. But I hope you found this episode helpful in understanding the pros and cons of using Tori Finance.
