This podcast actually used to be called The Unashamed Podcast, but that show got somewhat put on the backburner for a while as life got hectic. Now I've kind of rebooted it as a personal project, meaning things are going to be a little different. First of all, I'm flying solo for now, but I definitely want to have guest speakers on down the line. Secondly, I'm going to focus on deeper topics as well as topics I'm passionate about and interested in. Some of them might be on the more obscure side, but I'm excited to see where this takes us.Today's episode is on how to hear from God. This topic has been on my heart for a while because as I've sought God's guidance and direction in my life a lot recently, I've seen others do the same. Especially right now and over the last year or two, everyone is looking for some kind of guidance and clarity on what to do. I think that it's generally safe to say that everyone wants to hear from God in some capacity. The question is: how can we go about actually hearing from Him today? What I find when I look at the Bible is quite the disconnect between what we see in the Bible on this topic and what plays out in my everyday life. Back then, God spoke audibly to people and often revealed Himself in physical means. For example, when He showed up in the burning bush to Moses or as a pillar of fire to the Israelites, these were very physical manifestations. Yet I don't feel like we see those today. God doesn't seem to speak in the same way.So today, we'll be answering two questions. First of all, what changed between then and now? Second of all, how then can we hear God speak into our lives today?Let's talk first about what changed between then and now. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, we actually see God change the way He interacts with His people. He goes from interacting with them in a very physical and tangible way to a more spiritual and personal way. The way God interacts with His people in the Bible is extremely important because all throughout the biblical narrative, God's MO is Him saying to His people that He will be their God, they will be His people, and they will dwell together forever. This constantly begs the question of how God is interacting and living with His people in various parts of the story. In the Old Testament, God dwelled with His people in the places of the tabernacle and the temple. Yet we see in Ezekiel that God leaves the temple and that we then become the temple. 1 Corinthians 6:19 tells us that we are now the temples of the Holy Spirit. He lives in us. I'd say that's a pretty big change to where God dwells and how He interacts with His people. Instead of manifesting to nations in the physical realm, He now lives inside of individuals through His Spirit.I think one thing we often have a misperception of is we think that God would just manifest physically to everyone and anyone. What He would do is He would speak through one person to a larger group of people. For example, He would call a prophet as His mouthpiece to the entire nation of Israel and speak to and through that prophet. I do believe this ...
