We were delighted to host Dr Briana De Miranda on the topic of "How the environment affects Parkinson's Disease and what you can do about it."
As Parkinson's diagnoses continue to rise worldwide, increasing attention is being given to the role of environmental factors in the disease's onset and progression, and to the practical steps we can take to better protect ourselves from these risks.
Briana De Miranda, Ph.D., is a Neurotoxicologist and Associate Professor of Neurology in the Killion Center for Neurodegeneration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her research focuses on environmental risks for neurodegenerative diseases, integrating expertise in toxicology, pharmacology, and neuroscience. Her interdisciplinary research is aimed at understanding how neurodegeneration is caused by environmental exposures, and finding ways to treat or prevent neurologic disorders caused by toxic risk factors.
