We bring in the experts from Death Penalty Action, including Charles Keith (Impacted Communities Liaison), Abe Bonowitz (Executive Director), and Alli Sullivan (Communications Coordinator), who enlighten us about their involvement in the fight for abolition and the reality of abolishing the death penalty. As we discuss the upcoming five executions, we stress the importance of educating ourselves on this issue to join the fight and encourage listeners to proceed with an open mind, albeit a trigger warning for those who might find the discussion uncomfortable.

As we progress, we discuss the systemic injustices and racism within the death penalty, shedding light on the outdated execution methods, lack of transparency, and the disproportionate execution rates of people of color. The emotional toll this punitive system takes on the victims, their families, and communities is brought to light, and the alternative - death by incarceration - is also analyzed. In this crucial dialogue, we highlight the screening process for jury members and the implications of the death penalty on innocent people.

Lastly, we discuss the emotional and spiritual toll the death penalty takes on victims and their families, underscoring how the state often prolongs their healing process. Our guests from Death Penalty Action share their personal experiences, highlighting how revenge doesn't bring healing to victims of violent crimes. We round off the episode discussing the status of the death penalty in the United States, and the importance of advocacy and community to bring about a transformation.
