Senior year is exciting, emotional…and apparently full of expenses nobody warned us about. 😅
In this episode, Shana and Vanessa sit down with listener and fellow senior mom Robyn to talk about what it really costs to have a high school senior.
Robyn walks us through the expenses that surprised her most — from senior pictures and outfits to graduation gifts, parties, college applications, technology, senior trips, and all those little “senior moments” that add up fast.
The biggest takeaway? We do not have to say yes to every expense to make senior year special.
Robyn estimates that her family spent around $4,000 throughout senior year, but your number could be completely different. The goal isn’t to copy someone else’s senior-year budget. It’s to decide what matters to your family, make a plan, and start saving before those expenses start showing up.
We also talk about giving our kids their own spending limits for things like dances, pictures, clothes, hair, nails, and extras. Sometimes the quickest way for a teenager to decide they don’t actually need something is to tell them they’ll need to use their own money. 😂
And budget besties, some of the sweetest memories cost almost nothing. Sleepovers, senior sunrise, floating the river, breakfast with friends, and simply giving our kids a little more freedom can end up being the moments they remember most.
