概要
Today is Go Texan Day, and festivities are already underway downtown. Head to Hermann Square between eleven in the morning and one in the afternoon for the Rodeo Roundup, where you'll find live music, a Texas Longhorn steer for photos, and complimentary chopped barbecue sandwiches. Later today, you can watch the Trail Rides arrive at Memorial Park, a beloved tradition that brings riders from across Texas into the city ahead of the rodeo's opening day.
If you're a barbecue enthusiast, the World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest is happening right now at NRG Park through Sunday. More than two hundred fifty teams are competing to become grand champions. The contest runs until eleven tonight, then continues tomorrow from noon to eleven in the evening, and Sunday from nine in the morning to eleven at night. For thirty dollars for adults and ten dollars for kids ages three to twelve, you get access to the carnival, live musical performances at The Garden Stage, complimentary sliced brisket, beans and chips, and the Rockin' Bar-B-Que Saloon. The awards presentation happens tomorrow evening at seven o'clock on The Garden Stage.
Speaking of tomorrow, Saturday is packed with activities. The Downtown Rodeo Parade starts at ten in the morning, featuring thousands of cowboys and cowgirls on horseback. The parade route runs from Bagby and Walker streets through downtown, with the best views along Louisiana Street between Bell and Lamar. Head to public parking garages in downtown Houston or the Theater District for affordable parking options.
If you're looking for dining experiences with a rodeo twist, The Pit Room is hosting its annual Go Texan Day patio party today from four to eight in the evening at both their Montrose and Memorial locations, featuring free entry, country DJs, a crawfish boil, and a petting zoo. Azumi in the River Oaks District is offering a special Rodeo Roll topped with Texas wagyu and dynamite crawfish for just twenty-two dollars through March twenty-second.
For those interested in cheer competition, the NCA All-Star National Championship is happening this weekend at the George R. Brown Convention Center through March first, with tickets starting at thirty-two dollars.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officially kicks off Monday, March second, but these pre-rodeo events are what make this weekend unforgettable. So get out there and experience the spirit of Texas!
