Today’s reading takes us to Hosea 9, where judgment has arrived while Israel is still celebrating. They are rejoicing at their festivals, but Hosea interrupts the celebration with a funeral announcement. They are enjoying the gifts of God while giving credit to false gods, and the Lord declares that the land He gave them will no longer be theirs to enjoy.
Hosea 9 reminds us that false celebration, rejected revelation, corrupted worship, and covenant rebellion all lead to exile. Israel became like the gods they worshiped, and their ability to recognize truth faded with their rebellion. So today, read Hosea 9 and ask the Lord to keep your heart tender: worship the true God, listen when He speaks, and become more like the One whose glory you behold.
