    This week we got to chat with author & friend of the show SEAN ABLEY about his wonderful book QUEER HORROR: A Film Guide and more about his life, career and some of our favorite films! Of course he brought us a gem, neither Julia or Teri had watched, to cover for our show ~ HORROR HIGH (1974)!

    More about our guest: Sean Abley is an entertainment journalist, B-movie screenwriter, and award-winning playwright. His "Gay of the Dead" column (est. 2009 for Fangoria.com) was the first blog to focus solely on LGBTQ filmmakers working in horror. He is a regular contributor to Fangoria magazine and a frequent panelist and podcast guest for all things horror-related. He’s written three entries in the Witchcraft film franchise, the 9th entry in the Camp Blood franchise, and his own film, the gay sci-fi thriller, Socket. He wrote multiple episodes of the Disney Channel series So Weird, as well as Sabrina: The Animated Series, Digimon, and MegaBabies. He also produced Pornography: A Thriller for filmmaker David Kittredge. He’s written over 60 plays including Attack of the Killer Bs, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians: The Musical, End of the World (With Prom to Follow), and the stage adaptation of Ted V. Mikels’ The Corpse Grinders. Most recently, he created and co-edited Queer Horror: A Film Guide, a 500-page encyclopedia of horror films with LGBTQ content, as well as the companion podcast.

    More about our Guest: Ben Warhit has produced and developed premium documentaries for over 12 years. In 2019, Ben was hired by Tremolo Productions and spent four years working across their slate of content. He was credited as a Production Manager, Line Producer, and/or Producer on 10 films including: Roadrunner: A film about Anthony Bourdain, Mickey: The Story of a Mouse, The Saint of Second Chances, & Steve! (martin): A documentary in Two Pieces. Ben was the Line Producer on the Andy Kaufman feature documentary entitled Thank You Very Much which won Best Documentary at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival. He also produced a feature documentary alongside director Jason Zeldes about André Heller and the Luna Luna Art Amusement Park. Most recently, he was the Line Producer on Earnhardt, a four-part documentary series produced by Imagine Entertainment and Amazon Studios. He is currently Executive Producing a feature documentary for Peacock.

    In 2024, Ben made his scripted directorial debut with his horror-comedy short film Jack Attack which he wrote, directed, and edited. It won Best Horror Comedy at the Studio City International Film Festival and was awarded Best Horror Short by TOP SHORTS. It is being distributed by Eli Roth's Crypt TV.

    It was a real treat to chat with director Darren Stein about one of his favorite films - PARENTS (1989). This dark comedy, directed by Bob Balaban, explores the often toxic generational experiences a child can face when interacting with their family. A perfect film for the holiday season!

    More about our Guest: Darren is a director, screenwriter and film producer who grew up in the San Fernando Valley. After graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Darren co-wrote and directed his first feature film, SPARKLER which premiered at the Hamptons Film Festival in 1997 and featured Park Overall, Freddie Prinze Jr, Jamie Kennedy, Veronica Cartwright and Grace Zabriskie. Darren then went on to write and direct the dark teen comedy JAWBREAKER which premiered at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival and has gone on to become a cult classic. He has also written the final installment of VC Andrews’ FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC movie series SEEDS OF YESTERDAY for Lifetime, produced the cult horror film ALL ABOUT EVIL and directed the teen comedy feature GBF (Gay Best Friend). Darren has been a producer and guest judge on seven seasons the Emmy-nominated reality competition series THE BOULET BROTHERS’ DRAGULA on AMC.

His books include Hollywood Pride (TCM/Running Press), and Have Yourself a Movie Little Christmas, which will be reissued in Fall 2025 by Bloomsbury in a revised and updated edition. A former host for FilmStruck, he has discussed movies on TCM, CNN, and ABC, as well as in numerous documentaries.
