概要
“Many times God is not trying to convict us in a negative way but convince us that His way is better.”
In John 16:8–11, Jesus explains the work of the Holy Spirit, describing how He will come to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Yet the word “convict” here carries a deeper meaning than many assume. It is not merely about exposing wrongdoing or making someone feel condemned. The Holy Spirit’s role is to convince. He gently reveals truth, persuading our hearts that God’s way is the better way. Like a faithful friend, the Holy Spirit walks alongside us, opening our understanding and guiding us toward what leads to life, peace, and righteousness.
Many believers mistakenly view conviction as something harsh or punitive, but the Spirit’s work is rooted in love. When the Holy Spirit speaks to our hearts, He is not trying to shame us but to redirect us. His conviction is an invitation to see things from God’s perspective and to trust that what God desires for us is greater than anything we might choose on our own. The Holy Spirit convinces us that righteousness is worth pursuing and that walking in obedience brings freedom rather than restriction. In this way, He proves Himself to be not just a guide or helper, but truly our friend.
