概要

When not writing screenplays or working on films that will probably never see the light of day, Anders Holmes is trying his hand at podcasting. Check out his podcast, Holmes Movies, where he picks one film and discusses it with a guest. Enjoy!

  • Fascism On Film - Episode 11 - Berlin Express
    2026/04/25

Welcome to the eleventh episode of our ongoing series: Fascism On Film. Each episode of this series, the Holmes Brothers look and review a film that has to do with fascism. During the episodes, the brothers look and see how the aspects and portrayal of fascism shown in the film relate to current and/or past events.

On this Fascism on Film episode, the Holmes Brothers look at and discuss the post-war spy thriller from Cat People director Jacques Tourneur: Berlin Express. The film stars Robert Ryan, Merle Oberon, Charles Korvin, Paul Lukas, Robert Coote and Reinhold Schünzel. A group of strangers from various places, the UK, USA, Russia and Europe, are travelling together on a train to Berlin. Onboard the train with them is Dr. Heinrich Bernhardt a diplomat who becomes the target of a Nazi Assassination plot. Upon arriving in bombed out Frankfurt, Robert Ryan and co head out into the ruined city to find Heinrich before it is too late. The film makes very good to use the real locations that still show the marks of the Second World War to give a moody and harsh authenticity that feels reminiscent of Carol Reed's The Third Man. A suspenseful and fast paced noir spy caper. Available to watch on the Criterion Channel.

We hope you enjoy this episode and stay tuned for more episodes of this Fascism On Film series.

  • Fascism On Film - Episode 10 - The Secret Agent
    2026/03/28
"'I'm not a violent person. But this guy... I would kill him with a hammer. I'd smash his whole head with a hammer."Welcome to the tenth episode of our ongoing series: Fascism On Film. Each episode of this series, the Holmes Brothers look and review a film that has to do with fascism. During the episodes, the brothers look and see how the aspects and portrayal of fascism shown in the film relate to current and/or past events. On this Fascism on Film episode, the Holmes Brothers look at and discuss the Oscar nominated film from director Kleber Mendonça Filho: The Secret Agent. Released in 2025. This year at the 98th Annual Academy Awards, the film was nominated for four Oscars. One of the nominations was for Wagner Moura in the Best Actor category. Wagner Moura plays Armando who is using the name Marcelo as a cover. Set in 1977 during a time of mischief and political turmoil in Brazil under military dictatorship, Armando travels to Recife during the carnival holiday. His son Fernando is there, living with Armando's late wife Fátima's family. He is former professor and is trying to escape and flee the country. In order to not face any persecution for what happened years before the events of the film. The Secret Agent is a blend of so many different styles and tones. At it's heart is a Neo-Noir-ish historical political thriller, but it does seamlessly shift into bizarre but compelling territories. A sophisticated film made for grown ups and is shot and told in an unconventional way. We hope you enjoy this episode and stay tuned for more episodes of this Fascism On Film series.Be sure to check out our Monument Valley Film on our YouTube Channel.Anders's screenwriter work can also be seen at work in the horror, car chase thriller Delivery Run, co-written with & directed by Joey Palmroos. • Alternative Oscars - Episode 26 - 28th Academy Awards
    2026/03/15

It’s Awards Season yet again. Here on the Holmes Movies Podcast that means, it is time for the Alternative Oscars episodes! AKA the Anders and Adam-emy Awards! Each episode for this series we pick a different year in Oscars history and attempt to correct the record, stripping the undeserving of their garlands while recognising those who were cruelly overlooked.

This time, we will be casting our eye back to… the 28th Academy Awards. The event celebrated all the films released in the year of 1955. The event was held at the RKO Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, California and the NBC Century Theatre in New York City. The Lost Angeles host was Jerry Lewis. The New York hosts were Joseph L. Mankiewicz and Claudette Colbert.

This year at the 28th Annual Academy Awards, Delbert Mann's film Marty won Best Picture and Best Director. Plus Best Actor in a Leading Role for its start Ernest Borgnine. Grace Kelly was at the ceremony as a presenter and this was just when she was about to retire from acting. She would then become the Princess of Monaco. This was also the last year where International Films received a Special/Honorary Oscar. The Best Foreign Language Film award would be handed out for the first time next year at the 29th Annual Academy Awards.
