How does our God work? He is attentive to the humble, but scatters the proud. He brings down those seated on thrones and lifts up those bowed low. He fills up the hungry but sends the rich away empty. He makes himself the servant of his own servant, Israel. God’s way is the exact opposite of the world’s way. Mary wasn’t rich, powerful, or famous. She was an ordinary young woman. Yet through her, God brought the Savior into the world – the one who would lift up the humble and bring hope to all people. Mary’s story reminds us that Christmas isn’t about what we do for God, but about what God has done, and is still doing, for the world.
