Cold and precise: a single cordovan Oxford shoe, laces tied and toe pointed north, sat on a gravel shoulder at 6:19 a.m. within hours of a missing blind man being reported; that lone shoe later became Exhibit Seven in a criminal trial. How did a man who had been blind for decades, taken from his kitchen and held for thirty-two hours with no sight and no phone, manage to leave a trail that led rescuers straight to him?
In this episode, we follow the sequence of events from the moment David Green was taken from his Pembrook Lane home to the discovery of the shoe on Dunnett Road, reconstructing the timeline of calls, searches, and the evidence that connected them-could a single misplaced object really be the key to finding a blind hostage?
Person: David Green
Date: June 1-3, 2011
Location: Pembrook Lane and Dunnett Road, Weston County
Status: Missing then located; shoe became Exhibit Seven
Investigating Officer: Detective Donna Farrell
- At 6:19 a.m. Michelle Christensen spotted a cordovan Oxford shoe on a gravel shoulder and called the Sheriff's Office at 6:22 a.m.
- The shoe had a monogram on the insole reading "D.G." and was size 10½, laces neatly tied and toe pointed north.
- David Green was forty-seven years old in spring 2011 and had been blind since his late twenties due to retinal degeneration.
- David failed to show up for his volunteer shift at the Weston County Animal Shelter on Wednesday; the shelter director called police at 9:15 a.m.
- Detective Donna Farrell arrived at the scene of the shoe at 7:10 a.m. and later designated it Exhibit Seven in the criminal trial.
