  • Ep. 46 EMDR, NET, and Releasing Stored Trauma with Author of Beautiful Ashes
    2025/10/28

    Show Notes:

In this deeply moving episode of Healing Doesn’t Have to Be Heavy, host Angie Berrett sits down with Shelly Edwards Jorgensen—survivor, speaker, author of Beautiful Ashes, and advocate for trauma recovery. Shelly shares the profound and nearly unimaginable trauma she endured throughout her childhood and teenage years, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, and the murder of her mother at the hands of her father.

Despite living what looked like a “successful” life on the outside—excelling academically, building a strong career, and appearing confident—Shelly reveals how she silently battled depression, emotional numbness, and daily thoughts of wanting to die. She and Angie explore the silent suffering so many trauma survivors experience, and why outward success does not equal inner peace.

Shelly opens up about the turning point in her healing journey — discovering NET (Neuro Emotional Technique) and other body-based therapies, after traditional talk therapy alone was not enough. She discusses the importance of finding the right combination of healing modalities, the power of movement and athletic grounding, and the role of faith and trust in rebuilding her inner safety and sense of self.

Mindy shares how play, shadow work, family constellations, and color can become powerful tools for transformation and self-awareness.

She explores the concept of our “inner teams”—the different parts of ourselves that shape our thoughts and behaviors—and how embracing them with curiosity can unlock profound emotional healing. Mindy also highlights the importance of safe, supportive group environments in facilitating breakthroughs and helping individuals reconnect with their authentic selves.

The conversation wraps up with Mindy’s reflections on her own healing journey, what she’s learned from working with others, and her vision for helping more people rediscover joy, balance, and inner harmony.

    Bio:

Mindy Schrager is a transformational coach, systemic facilitator, and longtime explorer of the deeper threads that shape our inner world. Her work blends heart, insight, and gentle guidance—supporting individuals in discovering the patterns, stories, and inherited beliefs that quietly influence their lives and choices.

With a background in corporate leadership and a deep personal journey of healing, Mindy came to see how true transformation begins not in strategies but in alignment—with ourselves, our values, and our history. Her work invites people to reconnect with their inner wisdom and uncover new pathways forward—what she calls Transformational Alchemy.

Through her practice, Systems of Change, LLC, Mindy supports clients using a unique integration of coaching, family and systemic constellations, and color-based tools, including the Aura-Soma® system. Each pathway offers an invitation to release old patterns, reclaim clarity, and step into a more fully expressed version of self.

Mindy’s first book, *Pathways, Puzzles, and Possibilities*, offered a magical map for inner change. Her second, arriving in 2025, will go even deeper into the journey of embodied transformation.
