Is it possible to turn hope into loss - and even comedy?
This week, I'm joined by US comedian Sam Morrison for a conversation about love, grief, comedy, and the show that changed his life.
Sam is the creator of Sugar Daddy, a critically acclaimed solo show about losing his partner Jonathan to Covid, being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and somehow turning the most painful period of his life into something funny, moving and deeply human.
We also talk about his show DUCK, which he's currently performing at the Edinburgh Fringe throughout August.
In this episode, Sam talks about meeting Jonathan, the silliness and love that defined their relationship, and what it means to keep someone alive by continuing to talk about them. He also opens up about anger, grief, body image, gay culture, and why making jokes about loss is one of the hardest things he has ever had to do.
Funny, filthy, tender and unexpectedly profound, I loved this conversation.
