During the third, V sees another Spartan moving across Guardian.

It does not appear on the scoreboard.

It is not listed in the lobby.

And when it finally kills V, Halo does not credit another player.

The screen simply reads:

Killed by The Guardians.

What begins as a bizarre Halo 3 glitch quickly becomes something far more invasive. Anonymous Xbox Live messages appear. Then real names. Old usernames. Phone numbers. Family information. Home addresses. Photographs taken outside their houses.

V and R convince themselves they have encountered a hacker.

Then the messages begin mentioning things no hacker should know.

Objects hidden inside bedrooms. Private notes that were never photographed or uploaded. Details from inside homes no stranger should have been able to see.

Their search for answers leads through old Halo forums, forgotten Ghost of Guardian stories, corrupted Saved Films, dead links, private messages, and eventually a hidden archive documenting players who claim to have encountered impossible users inside online games.
