Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!

Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.

Our Evolution

While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.

With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.

What to Expect in Season 4

We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:

  • Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
  • Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
  • Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.

For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.

Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

Defining the Quest (What is Righteousness?)

We often confuse righteousness with "being good" or following a set of rules. While a righteous person acts morally, the righteousness Jesus speaks of is two-fold. First, it is imputed righteousness—Christ’s perfect, clean record given to us when we trust Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). Second, it is practical righteousness—the Holy Spirit working in us to produce a life that reflects God's justice, love, and purity in our daily actions. To hunger for righteousness is to crave both: the security of being right with God, and the transformation that makes us act like Christ.

    Reflection Questions:

    1. Do I rely on my own efforts to feel "good enough," or do I rest fully in the righteousness gifted to me by Christ?
    2. What is one specific area of my life (my speech, my patience, my financial integrity) where I need more of God's practical righteousness to manifest today?

The Intensity of a Desperate Need (The Hunger)

Jesus uses two of the most basic, life-sustaining human needs—hunger and thirst—to illustrate the spiritual desire God expects from us. True hunger is not an appetite for a snack, but a deep, gnawing ache that demands satisfaction. When Jesus says "blessed," he means divinely favored and spiritually prosperous. Our greatest spiritual prosperity comes not when we are full and comfortable, but when we are desperate for more of God's character (His righteousness). This hunger means acknowledging that all the success, comfort, or material possessions in the world cannot truly fill the God-shaped void in our hearts.

    Reflection Questions:

    1. What am I most eager to satisfy today (e.g., career goal, comfort, entertainment)? How does that intensity compare to my desire for God?
    2. If I were truly "hungry" for righteousness, what daily habits (prayer, reading Scripture, serving others) would I prioritize immediately?

  • Do You Hunger & Thirst for God's Presence?: Meditation from Matthew 5:6
    2025/11/23

What if your deepest cravings pointed beyond comfort and toward a life that actually satisfies? We explore that question through a guided Christian meditation anchored in Matthew 5:6—Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled—and build a prayerful journey that engages mind, body, and spirit.

We start by opening our hearts with Psalm 51, letting confession become an act of trust that makes room for mercy. From there, we slow down with measured breathing and progressive muscle relaxation, a simple practice that brings the nervous system into calm and helps us pay attention to God’s presence. Praise follows naturally as we repeat Psalm 8:9, lifting our focus from distraction to delight. With that foundation set, we step into the core reflection: translating the memory of real hunger and thirst into a spiritual ache for forgiveness, wisdom, and strength to do what is right.

The conversation then turns to Jesus as living water and the bread of life. We contrast the quick highs of the world with the steady, soul-deep satisfaction found in Christ. Guided visualization helps you see and feel the promise: I will satisfy that hunger. A searching question invites honest inventory—Do I pursue holiness with the urgency I bring to my most basic needs?—and we close with gratitude that reframes desire as a sign of life, not lack. To carry this forward, we share a simple assignment of daily devotion and reflection, a rhythm designed to keep the flame of holy longing burning bright.

If you’re longing for peace that holds and joy that lasts, press play, breathe deep, and come hungry. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a review to help others find this guided practice.
