In the final episode of Grief Kind series two, Clover Stroud and GP Dr Amir Khan delve into Dr Khan’s experience of grief following the loss of his father Farouk from heart disease, a decade after his initial diagnosis. Dr Khan was just 26 years old at the time and had been living away from home to study medicine.

Dr Khan discusses how Muslim traditions, and his South Asian background impacted him and his family’s experience of grief in both positive and negative ways – from having to become the man of the house and arrange a funeral within days of his father’s passing, to having a constant flow of visitors offering support in the days and weeks that followed his dad’s death.

Dr. Khan also reflects on the loss of not only his father, but also the potential for a closer relationship that never had the chance to develop. He talks about the "what-ifs" and longing for a deeper connection with his father.

Dr Khan now supports bereaved patients at his GP surgery and his advice would be to ask those grieving how they're feeling, how they're coping, what you can do to help.

In the latest episode of Grief Kind, Influencer and Entrepreneur Lottie Tomlinson talks to Clover about two significant losses in her life – her mum Johanna, who passed away from leukaemia when Lottie was just 18 years old, and her younger sister Felicity (Fiz) who died suddenly at the age of 18, just three years after their mum passed away.

Lottie talks about the impact grief has had on her life and how seeking bereavement counselling following her sister’s death helped her process her grief, alongside leaning on her family and friends for support.

Lottie acknowledges how hard it can be to talk to someone who has experienced a bereavement but urges people to support loved ones through grief by bringing up the topic in case that person would like to open up about how they’re feeling.
