    Humans have selective attention and tend to find what they focus on, whether it is positive or negative. To improve life, it is essential to focus on solutions and goodness rather than doom and gloom. God desires to lead us to a better place, breaking us out of negative thought patterns. In our text from Proverbs, the Bible highlights three states: going, sleeping, and waking. In our going, God's word will guide and provide for us, as we are not wise enough to navigate life alone. While we are asleep (both physically and spiritually), God promises to keep us safe. Upon waking, God is there to talk with us, offering mercy, grace, encouragement, and reminders of His plans and blessings, looking to comfort and sustain us rather than judge us.

    Christmas carries a profound message that transcends the commercialized version often presented by the world. It celebrates the incarnation of the Word, who came to save humanity, making Christmas a timeless truth relevant throughout the year. This truth is more than the birth of a baby; it signifies a divine presence in our lives. We must not let earthly distractions obscure the spiritual significance of this season. John’s gospel emphasizes the Word's eternal existence and the tragedy of humanity's ignorance and indifference. People often miss the true meaning of Christmas because they are too preoccupied with their own lives. Mary and Joseph were turned away from the inn because there was no room. We too often have no room to allow Jesus into our lives. To truly embrace Christmas, we must prioritize what is important, recognize the divine in our lives, and engage in heartfelt worship. Worship, unlike mere praise, involves the heart and leads to transformative encounters with God. Despite our shortcomings, God’s grace surpasses our self-condemnation, offering us a path to bridge the gap and connect with Him.

    Paul's life, as documented in scripture, is remarkable. His journey to Rome to appeal his case to Caesar was filled with challenges, including shipwrecks, storms, and hostile encounters. Despite losing the ships and cargo, all crew members survived. After a shipwreck, they ended up on an island, cold and lost, but protected. After three months on the island, they find another ship and set out again, and finally reach Rome. Paul, weary and fearful, was encouraged by groups of believers who came to meet him. Their presence alleviated his fear, and he thanked God, gaining the courage to face what lay ahead. This story emphasizes the importance of recognizing blessings and expressing gratitude, which can uplift and unlock God's blessings. Paul's journey shows that life is never too difficult for God to be present, and a spirit of thanksgiving is essential for peace, contentment, and joy. Life's imperfections and challenges do not prevent us from giving thanks.
