In this episode of Café Marcial, we take a look at the roots of Hapkido — how it all began for the world — through the legacy of Grand Master In Sun Seo, Chairman of the Hanminjok Hapkido Association. He trained under the father of Hapkido, Choi Yong-sool, and earned his black belt back in 1957.
Today, Grand Master In Sun Seo, along with his sons and daughter, continues to lead both the Hanminjok Hapkido Association and the World Kido Federation. One of them, Grand Master Steve Seo, joins us in this episode to share what it was like growing up in the dojang and what it means to be so closely connected to the true and authentic roots of Hapkido.
As President of the World Kido Federation, he also gives us his outlook on the future of Hapkido — in North America, Latin America, and beyond.
We wrap up by talking about the Latin America Summit, held in October 2025 in Panama City — a complete success and just the beginning of greater things to come for Hapkido in the Americas, and even around the world.
