Verna McKinnon is a passionate fantasy and sci-fi author best known for The Bardess of Rhulon, Bastard Sorceress, and her enchanting series The Familiar’s Tale, which includes Gate of Souls and Tree of Bones. A University of Nebraska graduate with a BFA, Verna eventually followed her heart into storytelling, choosing fantasy as her realm of imagination.

She’s written over thirty short stories published in webzines and print magazines—many of which are available to read on her website. Verna lives in Seattle with her husband, author Rick Hipps, and far too many books. She’s a proud fantasy nerd who drinks copious amounts of coffee, loves animals deeply (a central theme in The Familiar’s Tale), and believes fiercely in the power of heroines.
