In this episode of The Advocate You Didn’t Know You Could Be, Anne King moves on from building a timeline to the next important step: gathering what you already have.
When something stressful lands in your life, it is easy to think you need to find every letter, every email, every screenshot and every missing detail straight away. Anne explains that you do not need to gather everything at once. You start with what is already within reach.
This episode is about collecting information, not fighting a case. It is about understanding what you can show, what you cannot show, what is missing, what needs checking and what does not line up.
Anne also explains why simple everyday habits can help protect you going forward. Communicating in writing, keeping notes after phone calls, saving screenshots, using receipts where useful, and keeping everything in one place can all help create a clear paper trail.
Evidence does not need to sound formal or legal. It can be a letter, email, text, screenshot, payment confirmation, call log, bank transaction, note, photo or online message. If it helps show what happened, what did not happen, what was said or what was received, it matters.
Using her own experience, Anne shows how the information they already had helped them begin to understand the situation, including the letter before claim, proof of payment, bank statement, credit report and notes from the day the CCJ was discovered.
The key message of this episode is that gathering is grounding. You are not trying to solve everything at once. You are creating something you can see, hold, understand and build from.
