Are we really independent?

Independence is a choice. I can still be on my own, earn and take care of myself, or I can choose to rely on my parents' earnings and savings and live in comfort.

But perhaps true independence is not about never needing anyone. It is about having the ability to stand on your own and the freedom to choose whether to lean on someone or not.

Being supported is not the opposite of being independent. Not having the ability to survive without that support might be.
