In this message from the “Guarding What Is Trusted to You” series, Pastor Robbie continues in 1 Timothy and shows Paul’s charge to Timothy to remain in Ephesus, confront false teaching, and help bring order to the church. Paul reminds Timothy that sound doctrine matters because what we believe shapes how we live.

    Key themes:
    - Paul urges Timothy to stay in Ephesus and faithfully shepherd the church, even when it is difficult.
    - The church is not merely an organization to attend, but a household and family to belong to.
    - Healthy church life requires staying, working through conflict, and being known by one another.
    - False teaching must be confronted because adding anything to the gospel distorts the truth.
    - Sound doctrine is not just information—it should shape how we respond to suffering, fear, conflict, and everyday life.
    - God’s law is good when used rightly: it restrains sin, exposes our need, and points us to Christ.

    Scripture to Read:

    Main Scripture Passage
    - 1 Timothy 1:3–11

    Supporting Scripture Passage
    - 1 Thessalonians 2:7–8

    Application Scripture Passage
    - Mark 4:35–41

    Questions to consider:
    - Am I treating church like a family I belong to or an event I attend?
    - Where do I tend to run from conflict instead of working through it in love?
    - Do I know the difference between sound doctrine and false teaching?
    - How does what I believe about God shape the way I respond to hardship?
    - Am I trusting in Christ alone, or am I adding something else to the gospel?

  • 1 Timothy 1:1-2 | Intro
    2026/08/17

In this opening message of the 1 & 2 Timothy series, Pastor Robbie introduces the background of 1 Timothy—who wrote it, who received it, and why it matters for the church today. Paul writes to Timothy, his “true son in the faith,” to help him lead the church in Ephesus and teach how God’s household should function.

    Key themes:
    - Paul writes with apostolic authority as one sent by Christ.
    - Timothy was young, timid, and physically weak, yet God used him greatly.
    - God often uses weak and ordinary people so that He gets the glory.
    - 1 Timothy teaches how the church should function in leadership, holiness, doctrine, and discipleship.
    - The church in Ephesus is a warning: it had good works and sound doctrine, but eventually lost its first love.
    - A church stays spiritually alive by magnifying Jesus, confessing sin honestly, and hungering for God’s Word.

    Scripture to Read:

    Main Scripture Passage
    - 1 Timothy 1:1–2

    Supporting Scripture Passage
    - Acts 19:17–20

    Application Scripture Passage
    - Revelation 2:1–7

    Questions to consider:
    - Where am I making excuses for why God cannot use me?
    - Have I grown cold or simply gone through the motions in my walk with Jesus?
    - Am I regularly magnifying Christ, confessing sin, and growing in hunger for God’s Word?
