    Original Broadcast Date: 07/10/26

FULL SHOW: This week on Food Travel USA, Elizabeth Dougherty takes a closer look at why the Cavendish banana may be heading toward extinction as monoculture leaves entire crops vulnerable to a spreading fungus. We also examine troubling contamination findings involving jarred banana baby food, along with the broader question of how much parents can really trust what is marketed as safe. In travel, we cover airport delays, confusing airfare rules, lost luggage technology, and vacation deals that aren't nearly as generous as advertised. Plus, practical RV advice for dealing with a refrigerator that stops cooling, and a trip to New Orleans for Bananas Foster and then to the California desert for one of the strangest banana museums anywhere.

2026-0807 FOOD TRAVEL USA WITH ELIZABETH DOUGHERTY The TRUTH About Food and Travel Album: The TRUTH About Food & Travel 080726 Original Broadcast Date: 08/07/26 FULL SHOW RECAP: Is that fruit actually real? That's one of the questions Elizabeth is asking this week on Food Travel USA, and once again, the answer may be hiding in the fine print on the label. We take a closer look at the rules that allow food companies to sell products covered with pictures and references to blueberries, even when what's actually inside may bear very little resemblance to the fruit you thought you were buying. Elizabeth's message is one you've heard from us before: turn the package around and READ THE LABEL. There is some encouraging news on the food side too. Elizabeth caught up with Katrina Frey of Frey Vineyards, a company we've talked about and supported because their philosophy fits closely with something we've been saying for years: people deserve to know what's actually in the things they eat and drink. They talk about organic wine, what goes into conventional winemaking, and why Frey has chosen a very different way of doing it. We also run through this week's food news, another Top 10, and some of the stories that have us wondering exactly how far the food industry thinks it can stretch the meaning of words printed on a package. Then in Hour Two, the airlines and the Department of Transportation are fighting again, and this time it's over something every traveler should care about: knowing what your trip is really going to cost before you buy the ticket. Airline fee transparency is back in the spotlight, with the industry pushing back against rules requiring clearer disclosure of fees. But not every airline is taking the same position, and we look at who is siding with travelers and who is fighting to keep the current system. Then, because apparently getting passengers and their luggage from Point A to Point B without creating national news remains an unreasonable expectation, we have another edition of Airline Debacles. We'll also count down another travel Top 10 before Elizabeth takes us somewhere completely different for this week's Destination Unknown. It's two hours of food, travel, consumer information, a few laughs, and the kind of stories that usually leave us asking the same question: Why didn't somebody tell us this before? Food Travel USA. The truth about food and travel since 2010. Original Broadcast Date: 06/01/26

FULL SHOW: This week on Food Travel USA, Elizabeth Dougherty takes a closer look at several stories that affect all of us, whether we're standing in a grocery store aisle or sitting in an airport terminal. The show begins with Food News and Commentary, then pulls back the curtain on professional server training and why it can make or break your restaurant experience. A two-part feature on fertilizer explores how modern food production depends on it and why decisions made far from the farm can have real consequences for consumers. Elizabeth also examines what your food cravings may be trying to tell you and revisits a remarkable conversation with Dr. Terry Vrain, whose thoughts on GMOs and modern agriculture continue to spark debate years later. In Hour Two, Travel News, Airline Debacles, and Cruise News cover the latest developments affecting travelers, while RV Tips & Tales shares an important warning about RV consignment. The show wraps up with a look at Microsoft's Windows 11 privacy concerns and a fascinating trip beneath the Lincoln Memorial to discover a hidden piece of American history that few visitors ever get to see.
