This story is told by Eric Johnston, who started his final year at Miami University as a homeless student, just to be rescued by someone, whom he met as a stranger, a Visiting Professor from Trinidad & Tobago. Becoming the “son” of this new Faculty member, he is able to reestablish on a deeper level, a mutually beneficial bond with his best friend Michael Ceasar, find and cherish a romance with Graduate Student Gwendolyn Peters, and receive pastoral guidance from a young Father Charles Barkley of the local Episcopalian Church.

    College education coincides with the period of deepest formation of personality, character and relationships. While athletics does give provide an entrance-card into a world of higher education, it brings attraction and privileges that contribute superficially to the formation of real black men. At Miami University of Ohio, this former college athlete, eventually learns the secrets of loving and respecting the hope that has been engraved in his given ethnicity, which has been nurtured by his ancestors, over centuries of suffering, struggle, and eventual success.
