Agronomists say there is an increasing interest in planting pulse crops, as fertiliser costs soar.

Nitrogen fertiliser has been in short supply as the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, with prices doubling since the conflict began in March.

But crops like lentils, legumes, chickpeas, faba beans and lupins create their own nitrogen.

Rural Editor Emily Minney caught up with Nutrien Ag solutions' Greg Twomey, to discuss how more farmers are turning their attention to pulses.
