  • Clarity, Communication Theory and Finding Your Own Voice
    2025/09/30

Preachers can sabotage themselves if they never listen back to their own sermons. In this milestone 400th episode, Pastor Ryan Marr of Calvary Chapel St. Petersburg explains why reviewing your delivery is essential, how seminary reshaped his confidence, and why finding your authentic voice matters more than copying others.

Across 21 years of ministry, Ryan has learned to slow down, breathe between thoughts, and let Scripture first confront him before he speaks to others. He shares candid stories about nervous habits, feedback from congregants, and the challenge of applying “watch your life and your doctrine” in the pulpit.

    Highlights

    • The discipline of listening to yourself preach
    • Practical ways to reduce filler words and pace your message
    • Why application must begin with the preacher
    • How to receive criticism without being crushed
    • The long journey to finding your own voice

  • How to Read, Teach, and Apply the Bible Faithfully
    2025/09/23

In a society where quick fixes and instant gratification dominate, are we settling for the same thing in our approach to sermons? In this episode, Pastor Mike Chaddick invites us to move beyond “fast food preaching” toward preparing and serving meals that are both desirable and deeply nourishing.

Recorded live at the Expositors Collective training event in Pleasanton, CA (May 2024), Mike unpacks the inductive Bible study method through its three steps: observation, interpretation, and application. He shows how careful attention to language, grammar, genre, and historical setting equips preachers and Bible teachers to handle the text responsibly and preach with gospel-centred conviction.

Listeners will also benefit from Mike’s practical encouragement to use multiple translations, ask questions on behalf of their audience, and keep the good news of Jesus at the heart of every message. Whether you’re preparing your first Bible study or refining your preaching after decades of experience, this session offers a simple yet profound roadmap for teaching God’s Word faithfully.

    About Mike Chaddick

With ministerial degrees from Vanguard University, Veritas Evangelical Seminary, and Fuller Theological Seminary, he brings both theological depth and pastoral warmth to his ministry. Mike is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree and is passionate about writing, fitness, and spending time with his wife, Beth, and their six children.

  • Father Wounds, Intertextual Whispers and the Preaching of the Protomartyr
    2025/09/16

In this episode of the Expositors Collective Podcast, Mike sits down in person with Dr Bob Franquiz at our St. Pete training event. Bob reflects on his journey from a shaky first devotion at Bible College to 25 years of preaching and pastoring at Calvary Fellowship in Miramar, Florida.

    Together they explore:

    • Why you can be called to ministry but still need to grow in gifting.
    • How humour, stories, and illustrations can both serve and sabotage preaching.
    • What Stephen’s sermon in Acts 7 teaches us about Old Testament depth, “apologetic reconstruction,” and what Bob calls a masterclass in intertextual whispers.
    • The role of fatherly voices in the church, and how many preachers carry unaddressed father wounds into ministry.
    • How decades of walking with God and pastoring the same church change a preacher’s tone, insight, and perspective.

Bob’s insights remind us that faithful preaching does more than explain texts - it both comforts and challenges, offering what people want and, more importantly, what they need.

    About Dr Bob Franquiz

Dr Bob Franquiz (Ph.D., Liberty University) is the Founding and Senior Pastor of Calvary Fellowship in Miramar, FL. He is the author of seven books, including Pull: Making Your Church Magnetic and Begin: First Steps for the Journey of Faith. Before pastoral ministry, Bob played guitar for the Christian hardcore band Strongarm, often recognised as one of the best Christian metal bands of all time.

He previously served as an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, one of the largest churches in the U.S. Bob holds a Ph.D. in Bible Exposition from Liberty University and a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Bob and his wife Carey (his “just out of high school” sweetheart) married in 1997, and together they are raising three children: Mia, Alexander, and Olivia.
