  • MRI Leadership: The complexities of leading MRI teams
    2026/02/12

    𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬!

In this episode of the 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭, we are joined by Vitor Silva, PhD, Radiographer and Supervisor at the MRI Department of ULS São João in Porto, Portugal, to explore the often overlooked but critical challenge of 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩.

Although technical expertise and safety are the pillars of our profession, 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 is the glue that holds a successful department together.

In this conversation, we try to move beyond clinical MR protocols to focus on the 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 of MRI: managing diverse teams, optimising departmental workflow, and the transition from clinical practitioners to team leaders.

Thanks to his background, which in some ways bridges advanced academic research and hands-on clinical supervision, Vitor helps us understand how to navigate the complexities of modern MR environments and how to promote a 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 within the control room.

If you have past experiences about stepping into leadership roles, managing team dynamics, or the challenges of supervision, feel free to share them in the comments and be part of the conversation!

  • MRI Physics: From Education to Innovation
    2026/01/08

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐃𝐨 𝐖𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 & 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬?
    Dear MRI Community,

In this episode of The 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭, we are joined by Professor Martin Graves, Professor of Magnetic Resonance Physics at University of Cambridge, in the UK, to explore how 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬 can be taught and learned in a way that is meaningful, accessible, and clinically relevant.

MRI physics is often seen as one of the most challenging aspects of MRI education, yet 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 to safe MRI practice, image optimisation, and technological progress.

In this conversation, we move beyond formulas and focus on educational strategies, learning pathways, and practical resources that genuinely support 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬.

With years of experience in MRI education and as one of the contributors to the well-known textbook 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐧, Prof. Graves shares practical insights that will resonate with students, educators, and experienced MRI practitioners alike.

If you have questions about learning or teaching MRI physics, resources that helped you along the way, or ideas on how MRI education should evolve, feel free to share them in the comments and be part of the conversation

  • MRI Safety Leadership: How Do We Manage Emergencies in MRI?
    2025/12/16

    Dear MRI Community,

In Episode #21 of the Everything MRI podcast, we sit down with Erica Scurr, MRI Strategic Lead at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, UK, to explore the challenges and critical responsibilities involved in dealing with emergencies in MRI, and why solid MRI safety training is and will remain essential for every service.

Throughout this conversation with Erica, we discuss what constitutes an emergency in an MRI setting and how staff members can prepare for and respond to these events safely and effectively. Thanks to her extensive leadership and experience in one of the world’s leading cancer hospitals, Erica also allows us to reflect on the importance of well-established MR safety training, simulation and multidisciplinary practice to strengthen patient safety.

As usual, if you have questions about MRI safety training, past experiences related to emergency procedures, or tips for improving safety processes within your department, feel free to share them in the comments and contribute to the growth of our community
