John Newton once said, “God sometimes does His work with gentle drizzle, not storms.” The "Amazing Grace" that Newton wrote about in his famous hymn didn’t hit him like a storm. Throughout his 82-year life, John Newton went from a biblically-schooled child, to a rambunctious and incorrigible teenager, to a depraved sailor; to an outcast; to a slave-trading sea captain, to a surveyor, before becoming the beloved pastor and prolific hymn writer we all know him as.
