Can a person truly be good all on his own?
When the Torah says "it is not good for man to be alone," it doesn't mean Hashem simply had a better idea. Rabbi Klapper explains that a person literally cannot reach goodness in isolation. The very definition of "tov" is to give — just as Hashem created the entire world as an act of chesed, "olam chesed yibaneh." That's why He separated man and woman into two: so that each would have someone to give to, and through giving, become good.
But there's a crucial catch. The chesed between a husband and wife is not like tzedakah — nobody wants to be treated as a charity case. Giving to your spouse isn't about rescuing someone who's lacking; it's about creating closeness. It's the difference between a handout and a gift. When a husband gives in a way that says "I want to be close to you" rather than "I have to help you," that's when a marriage becomes a source of goodness for both.
Ready to transform giving from an obligation into the deepest expression of love? Tune in to discover what real goodness looks like.
