Kyle's dog recognized West immediately at the Summer House aftermath taping, jumping on him, licking him, completely losing it. Amy and Jessica take that as confirmation of what they'd argued since before the season aired: the feelings between West and Amanda go back to season eight, not season ten. The reunion just made it harder to pretend otherwise. Both West and Amanda were articulate and decisive everywhere except on that couch, where they suddenly couldn't complete a sentence, and the two versions of the same people don't add up. Lindsey's role as interviewer was sharp TV, but she isn't a neutral party. Her show "In the City" lives or dies with Summer House, and Amy and Jessica both read her questions as an attempt to build a specific narrative: West as villain, Amanda as victim, the show survives. The problem is Amanda is currently in Italy with West while the reunion airs, so the story doesn't hold. The Valentine's Day flowers West sent Miha while already deep into things with Amanda, and the "you won" text he eventually sent her, fill in the rest of his character pretty clearly. Amy also brought up "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig, a book she gave three stars, and her specific problem with it: the protagonist gets dropped into alternate lives with no memory or context and has to judge them from a single day. You can't evaluate a marriage, or any life, from one bad moment inside it. Her next read is "In the Days of My Youth I Was Told What It Means to Be a Man" by Tom Junod, whose father told him late in life that the only woman he'd ever truly loved was someone who died young after an affair. She stayed perfect because she never got old enough to have needs. Amy connected that directly back to West.
