In 1960s Melbourne, a glamorous yoga teacher named Anne Hamilton-Byrne convinced some of Australia's most educated professionals — doctors, lawyers, psychiatrists, and academics — that she was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. What followed was one of the most disturbing cult stories in modern history.

Hamilton-Byrne illegally acquired 28 children through adoption fraud and cult member pregnancies, bleached their hair identical shades of platinum blonde, dressed them in matching outfits, and raised them in isolation on a remote property at Lake Eildon, Victoria. She told them she was their biological mother. She told them the world was ending and only The Family would survive. And when the children reached adolescence, they were injected with LSD in dark rooms and guided toward accepting her divinity.
The cult controlled a private psychiatric hospital. Its members included respected members of Melbourne's medical establishment. And for decades — while the children were beaten, starved, and drugged — nobody stopped her.
