Inspired by Henry Francis Lyte’s beloved hymn “Abide with Me,” today’s episode explores one of Scripture’s most reassuring promises: God is with us. Lyte wrote his hymn while facing declining health and approaching death, drawing upon the words of the disciples on the road to Emmaus who asked the risen Jesus to “abide with us.” His hymn became a testimony that even when health fails, circumstances change, and earthly comforts disappear, Christ remains.

The contemporary song “You’re With Me, Lord” turns Lyte’s prayer into a declaration of confidence. God is present in morning stillness and life’s darkest hours, when burdens become heavy and when storms leave us uncertain about what to do. The song also recognizes that His presence can become tangible through ordinary experiences, including the laughter of a friend and comfort in moments of sorrow, before building to the joyful affirmation: “Love is with me... Peace is with me... Joy is with me.”

The episode concludes by reminding us that God’s presence does not depend upon our ability to feel Him. He remains with us in light and shadow, laughter and tears, certainty and confusion. Whatever we encounter, we can move forward with confidence, not because God promises to remove every difficulty, but because He promises that we will never have to face those difficulties alone.
