Mental Mike synthesizes Carl Jung's analytical psychology and Eric Berne's transactional analysis to give you vocabulary to name those warring parts, trace where they came from, and integrate them into a coherent, authentic whole. Jung saw addiction as a spiritual crisis, a misguided search for wholeness using chemical counterfeit experiences.

You'll Discover:

  • Fragmentation as core problem: consciousness is a dynamic field of interacting energy patterns, psychological parts exist outside awareness until conscious observation brings them into light
  • Jung's individuation: lifelong journey becoming an authentic self by confronting/integrating unconscious (practical necessity in recovery, when fragmented, addiction has leverage; when integrated, you're solid)
  • Shadow beyond darkness: contains everything rejected/denied/underdeveloped, negative potential (rage/selfishness) AND positive potential (healthy ambition, creativity, boundary-setting)
  • Persona integration: social mask is a necessary tool, but not you. Aligning daily actions with the Self makes the persona authentic/flexible
  • Hero's journey archetype: reduces shame by showing suffering isn't pointless, struggle is universal, and facing inner demons is a heroic act
  • TA three ego states: Parent (internalized authority, critical "you always mess up" or nurturing "you can do this"), Adult (rational CEO processing reality objectively), Child (emotional impulse/vulnerability, adapted child seeks immediate relief)
  • Parent language clues: "should," "must," "always"; Child language: "I can't," "I'm overwhelmed," "it's not fair"; Adult language: questions rooted in the present
  • Life scripts: unconscious childhood decisions ("I am unlovable"), addiction serves the script perfectly (temporary relief from pain while behaviors reinforce negative beliefs)
  • Complexes as autonomous subpersonalities: emotionally charged clusters (inferiority complex, abandonment complex) that bypass Adult rational control when triggered, force automatic destructive reactions
  • Flow states vs reward deficiency syndrome: addiction provides artificial flow (no effort/skill/engagement), the brain calibrates to massive chemical surges, making natural rewards feel flat
  • Suicide prevention - emotional cup already full with undealt pain/shame/trauma, suicide triggered by the last few drops, making the cup overflow. Recovery requires pouring water out continuously
  • Alchemical process: Nigredo (descent into dark chaos), Albedo (purification—shining light on unconscious), Rubedo (coherent integrated self)

You are not broken—you are fragmented. Recovery is the sacred work of reassembly.
