January 7, 2025 Is masculinity toxic? As a child abuse survivor in the 1960s, Nancy Pearcey fled from her father's toxic masculinity. But 50 years later, the wife and mother of two sons has concluded that our culture today is at war with the wrong enemy. In her most recent book, The Toxic War on Masculinity, Pearcey argues from academic and public social science data that the toxic masculinity we all despise is the product of an unholy trinity of really bad ideas: secular humanism, atheism, and nominal Christianity. Pearcey says that according to the data, True masculinity – which, she argues is Biblical masculinity – is what both Christian and non-Christian women say they want, and what society desperately needs from men. Nancy Pearcey is professor and scholar in residence at Houston Christian University. She has been quoted in The New Yorker and Newsweek, highlighted as one of the five top women apologists by Christianity Today, and hailed in The Economist as "America's pre-eminent evangelical Protestant female intellectual."
