I've been listening to several different podcasts that have been saying something to the extent of "just existing are my ancestors' wildest dreams" and "how having a choice or an option is a part of the American dream". What does this mean exactly? Well, back in the day women in the US for example only had the choice to work as a nurse or a teacher and nothing else. And then there's the whole belief that you gotta be a lawyer or a doctor and if you're not then you're a 'failure' to the family. But these days a lot of people are taking pay cuts (and some the opposite with being millionaires thanks to the option to create your own online business - things like the internet and paypal for example), that our ancestors *wish they had access to.
