This week on the podcast, we sit down with Travis Roche the Pathways and operations manager for the St George Illawarra Dragons.
Travis’ footy career was cut short at just 21 after a series of serious knee injuries. A former Dragons Under 20s player who also spent time with the Bulldogs, he was forced to walk away from playing professionally far earlier than he expected.
But that wasn’t the end of his footy journey.
Travis turned his experience into a career behind the scenes and now works as the Dragons’ Pathways & Operations Manager, helping develop the next generation of players and giving young footballers a pathway towards the NRL.
We chat about his playing days, dealing with an early retirement, what happens inside an NRL pathways system, how clubs identify young talent, and what separates the kids who make it from those who don’t.
A good chat about footy, setbacks, recruitment, development and finding a new direction when the career you planned doesn’t work out.
