Ep. 06 | Get Stoked on the Gospel: Why Church Isn’t Boring
Does church ever feel boring?
Maybe you've sat through a long sacrament meeting, stared at the clock, or wondered why your parents keep telling you to read the Book of Mormon, pray, and go to church.
If that's you, this episode of Inspired by a Better Cause is for you.
Brother Richards tackles a question a lot of young men may be thinking but don't always say out loud:
What if the gospel of Jesus Christ isn't boring… and I just haven't discovered the treasure yet?
In this episode, we talk about why parents push their kids toward the gospel, why commandments aren't designed to ruin your fun, and why your parents may know something you haven't had time to learn yet.
Using the Book of Mormon and Lehi's vision in 1 Nephi 8, Brother Richards compares the scriptures to a treasure map. Lehi discovered something incredible—the love of God—and his first thought was to help his family find it too.
Sound familiar?
Your parents may be doing the same thing.
They've tasted something good. They've experienced the peace that comes through prayer, repentance, forgiveness, and a relationship with Jesus Christ. And now they're handing you the map.
But eventually, you have to grab the map yourself.
Your parents can't have a testimony for you. Your Young Men leaders can't build your faith for you. Eventually, the gospel has to become your gospel.
This episode explores:
📖 Why the Book of Mormon is more than an old religious book
🌟 How the Book of Mormon points us to Jesus Christ
🌳 Lehi's vision, the Tree of Life, and the rod of iron
🗺️ Why the scriptures can be viewed like a treasure map
👨👩👦 Why parents push their children toward the gospel
🙏 How to develop your own relationship with Heavenly Father
🔥 How to get genuinely excited about the gospel
💪 How young men can stand strong when the world says faith is boring or unnecessary
🎯 Why your faith eventually has to become your own
The world will give you plenty of reasons to let go of the rod.
People may tell you that church is boring.
That the Book of Mormon isn't relevant.
That following Jesus Christ is restrictive.
That you're missing out.
That you should just do whatever makes you happy.
But Lehi's vision gives us another picture.
Grab the rod. Stay on the path. Keep moving toward the tree.
Because the treasure isn't money, popularity, success, or a perfect life.
The treasure is the love of God. And the greatest treasure is Jesus Christ.
So this week, Brother Richards has a challenge:
Don't just read the Book of Mormon because someone told you to.
Go hunting.
Look for Jesus Christ.
Look for something that teaches you about Him.
Look for a story that gets you fired up.
Look for a verse that hits you differently.
Ask questions.
Pray.
Explore.
And when you find something…
Get stoked.

Whether you're listening in Utah, across the United States, or anywhere in the world, the invitation is the same:
