Ep 3: How to deal with LGBTQ+ issues at school without being called homophobic?

In one of the houses of Madinah, Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RAA) was as sitting with a group of his companions.

He said to them, “Make a wish,”

One of them said, “I wish to have as much gold as would fill this whole house so that I could spend it in Jihad.”

What is the difference between a victim and a Hero?

Both face a challenge, a difficulty. It could be anything big or small.

My siblings were unfair to me.

Bullies at school

Failing an exam

My parents are getting divorced.

A difficult test

Too many chores to do.

Homework too difficult

Learning disability

Being sick.

Being treated unfairly by others

Do your children look up to non-Muslims and look down on Muslims?

Are they shy or proud of their Muslim identity?

A 1940’s study called the “The doll test” revealed the impact of racism on black children and their self-esteem.

The path to excellence is one that only a few travel. It is a difficult path with lots of obstacles on the way.

You walk slowly and carefully, fall at times, and get back up again and again... making progress even slower….and harder...

Our role models set standards for us. There is no doubt that as a parent, you must strive to be a good role model for your child. However, don’t wait until you are the “perfect” role model to guide your child.

Instead, be a role model of who is striving for good. Walk the journey with them. You don’t need to pretend it's easy for you to wake up for Fajr if it’s hard for you. No, share the journey of striving to pray Fajr with them.

Are your children’s friends raising their standards, making them stretch, inspiring them, and helping them come out of their comfort zone?

Maybe the influence around them is okay, they are “good kids” or “good Muslim kids”.

You can be satisfied with that, and let it be, and maybe, just maybe you might raise a “good Muslim”.

There is one poison that could destroy years of good work raising a child…

Over the years, I have heard heartbreaking stories of children who were on the right path, loving, practicing Muslims, who turned their back on everything to do with the deen, because of the friend they made.

Just 2 days before I began writing this chapter, I received a message from a mother. Her daughter was a student of mine 2 years ago for a course. MashaAllah, she did well, her leadership qualities started beaming.

Children are born with a CAN-DO attitude, filled with energy! Allah (swt) blessed them with zest to overcome every obstacle, creativity, energy, A CAN-DO ATTIDUTE

In just the first 2 years of their life, they learn to crawl, walk, and talk…

But just as their energy and creativity inside them begins to bloom, we send them to school.
