Episode 13

Motip White is an electronic music producer, DJ and musician from Cologne, Germany who’s had releases on the likes of esteemed labels such as Innervisions, Isolate, Vod, Sum over histories and When We Dip.

He’s also the lead singer guitarist of the psych pop/rock band Acua and he recently completed a tour of Britain with his band.

I caught up with Motip in London as his tour ended and the interview took place at the Looking Glass Cocktail Bar in Shoreditch, who kindly allowed us to record the podcast there.

In this episode of the Electric Communion podcast, I chat to the London-based DJ and promoter Gus Emmett about his Kollektiv parties and the growing community of artists, DJs, promoters and electronic music enthusiasts that his brand kick-started.

From playing local parties in his home town of Portsmouth to becoming a resident of the Warm Up London parties and festivals, we dig deeper into Gus’s journey as well as discussing some of the challenges that promoters of smaller events like Kollektiv are facing in the current clubbing climate.

Redfreya is a London-based DJ who's been making a name for herself on the UK and international club scene for several years now, supporting some huge names in the industry whilst holding down a popular radio show and curating her own ‘Redfreya & friends’ events in London. James Harcourt has been making electronic music since the early 2000s but after a number of years in the musical wilderness, made a resurgence a few years back and has since gone from strength to strength, releasing consistently on labels such as Renaissance, Selador, Sum over histories and Siamese to name a few.

James is refreshingly vocal about the dance music scene and in this episode, he talks candidly about his own experiences and the challenges he’s faced, whilst offering up some sage advice for anyone out there making electronic music.
