  • Europe and Digital Sovereignty: Getting Big Tech to Comply with its Protective Regulations is Easier Said than Done | Ecu Radio E4S1
    2025/04/29

Ecu Radio is back to its weekly formula, as Meta and Apple were together fined €700 million for breaching the Digital Markets Act. We'll explore how this fine came to be, what the Digital Markets Act actually is, and what it means for the European Union, as both corporations are gearing to set the Trump administration against it. Will that bet pay? We'll explore that.

We'll also review the latest EU news and explore its unchallenged normative power on:

    • Road safety

    • Marine life preservation

    • An emboldened Defence programme

Finally, we will celebrate Europe's commitment to peace and prosperity, highlighting the people and actions that make us proud and build our future. This week, we head to Hungary as the opposition is geared towards facing Viktor Orban's long-standing rule head-on.

  • Fortress Europe vs. Corporations: Tackling Enshittification & Decay Capitalism with Regulations and Strategic Protectionism | Ecu Radio E3S1
    2025/04/22

This week, Ecu Radio takes a step back from the currently flooded news cycle and dive within the concept of Enshittification. This well-documented phenomenon happens when digital platforms inevitably worsen as they prioritise squeezing users, sellers, and workers for profit. But that’s just a symptom.

It’s part of a global ailment we’ll call Decay Capitalism: a shareholder-driven race to the bottom where siphoning value matters more than creating it. A system where quality, ethics, and meaning are systematically sacrificed for speed, scale and above all, greed.

It took the world by storm, and Europe isn’t unaffected, as corporations call for the dismantling of its protective acts, if not of the Union itself. Yet it resists. Through regulations, through consumers’ rights, through stringent health and safety standards, and through a foundational, democratic respect for its citizens.

The #BuyEuropean trend might just be what strengthens its immune system.

    2025/04/15

As the United States' democracy continues to backslide and the war in Ukraine persists, the world increasingly looks to the European Union as a respectable, viable, predictable, and, above all, sane leader. In this second episode, we explore what the EU has been focusing on, including:

    • The postponed trade war with the USA

    • Our evolving relationships with the rest of the world

    • The multi-institutional renewed support for Ukraine

    • The "AI Continent" plan to establish Europe as the leading territory in artificial intelligence

We will also celebrate Europe's commitment to peace and prosperity, highlighting the people and actions that make us proud and build our future. This includes the ongoing protests in Serbia, where citizens are fighting for a democratic, free, and fair way of life.
