  • Stones To Remember | 5th Anniversary Service
    2026/06/16

What do you do with the moments you never want to forget?

In this special fifth anniversary message, John Gunter reflects on the story of Joshua 4 and God's command to Israel to build a memorial of stones after crossing the Jordan River. Those stones were not trophies celebrating human achievement. They were testimonies pointing future generations to the faithfulness of God.

Looking back over five years of Eagle Community Church of Christ, this sermon celebrates God's provision through seasons of uncertainty, challenge, sacrifice, and growth. Through every obstacle, God has continued to bless His people and open doors for ministry.

But this message is about more than the past. It is a call to build for the future. Just as Israel built stones for the next generation, believers today are called to leave behind a testimony of faith that others can follow.

    Key Themes:

    • Remembering God's faithfulness through difficult seasons
    • Building a testimony for future generations
    • Unity is worth protecting and pursuing
    • Every believer has a place and purpose in God's family
    • The church grows when ordinary people become fully engaged

    📖 Scriptures: Joshua 4:1-7, Isaiah 54:17, Ephesians 4:1-6

  • God Revealed (Week 6) God is NOT Distant!
    2026/06/08

Is God really near, or does He just feel far away?

In the final message of the God Revealed series, John Gunter addresses a struggle many believers quietly carry. We know God is real. We know He is powerful. Yet there are seasons when He feels distant.

Drawing from Acts 17, this sermon examines Paul's message to the Athenians and their altar to an unknown god. Paul reveals a God who cannot be contained by temples, controlled by human systems, or kept at a distance. He is the God who gives life, breath, and everything else. He is the God in whom we live and move and have our being.

This message reminds us that God's nearness is not dependent on our feelings. He is present in worship, present in suffering, present in ordinary days, and present in every season of life. The question is not whether God is near. The question is whether we are drawing near to Him.

    Key Themes:

    • God cannot be confined to the boxes we create
    • God is present in every part of life, not just spiritual moments
    • We often treat God as distant when Scripture says He is near
    • God's nearness is an invitation to relationship
    • Drawing near to God changes how we live every day

    📖 Scriptures: Acts 17:22-28, Psalm 34:18, James 4:8, Jeremiah 23:23-24

  • Courage: Standing Strong When Faith Is Tested | Tyler Prothro
    2026/06/01

Courage is not the absence of fear. It is faith that moves forward anyway.

In this message, Tyler Prothro examines the biblical foundation of courage and challenges believers to stand strong when faith is tested. Through the examples of Joshua, David, Peter, and the apostles, we see that courage is not found in self-confidence or favorable circumstances. It is found in the presence of God.

Whether facing uncertainty, temptation, health struggles, opposition, or difficult decisions, Christians are called to trust God and move forward in obedience. Biblical faith is not passive. It responds. It acts. And it believes that God is greater than every obstacle we face.

This sermon reminds us that courage grows when we focus less on our fears and more on God's faithfulness, His promises, and the eternal hope we have through Christ.

    Key Themes:

    • Courage begins with God's presence
    • Faith chooses trust over fear
    • Obedience is the natural response of faith
    • Eternal hope strengthens present courage
    • God is greater than every giant we face

    📖 Scriptures: Joshua 1:1–9, 1 Samuel 17:45, Matthew 14:29, James 2:17, Acts 4:29, Romans 8:31, 2 Timothy 1:7

  • Faith with Doubt, Skepticism and Wonder | Heath McCartney
    2026/05/28

Can you still follow Jesus while wrestling with doubt?

In this honest and compassionate message, Heath McCartney explores the tension many believers quietly carry between faith and skepticism. Through the story of Thomas and the other apostles, we see that doubt was present even among those who walked closely with Jesus.

This sermon reminds us that Jesus did not reject doubters. He welcomed them. He walked patiently with them, reassured them, and continued calling them to follow Him. Faith was never about achieving perfect certainty. It was always about trusting God, even when questions remain.

Heath also addresses the relationship between faith and science, the pressure many Christians feel to hide their doubts, and the freedom that comes from realizing that God’s love is not dependent on flawless belief. Even faith as small as a mustard seed matters when it is placed in a faithful God.

    Key Themes:

    • Doubt does not disqualify you from following Jesus
    • Thomas and the apostles wrestled with uncertainty
    • Faith grows through relationship, not performance
    • Small faith in a big God is enough
    • God welcomes skeptics, cynics, and questioners

  • Faith That Holds in Babylon | Senior Sunday 2026
    2026/05/19

Culture will always try to tell you who you are. Faith reminds you who you belong to.

In this Senior Sunday message, John Gunter explores Daniel chapter 1 and the story of a young man taken from everything familiar and placed into a culture determined to reshape him. Babylon changed Daniel’s environment, education, language, and even his name. Yet Daniel refused to let Babylon define his identity.

This sermon speaks powerfully to graduates stepping into independence and transition, but it also reaches every believer navigating pressure from culture, work, relationships, and everyday life. Faith cannot remain something borrowed from parents, family, or routine. At some point, it must become personal.

Through Daniel’s example, this message reminds us that spiritual drift rarely happens all at once. It often begins with small compromises and gradual distance from the things that keep us anchored in God. But when identity is rooted in Christ before the storm comes, faith can remain steady even in difficult environments.

    Key Themes:

    • Culture constantly pressures us to change identity
    • Faith must become personal to survive transition
    • Small compromises often lead to spiritual drift
    • Christian community helps anchor us in difficult seasons
    • God remains faithful even in unfamiliar places

  • God Revealed (Week 5) God is Patient
    2026/05/11

God’s delay is not weakness. It is mercy.

In this message, John Gunter continues the God Revealed series by focusing on the patience of God. Many people ask why evil continues, why sin seems unchecked, or why judgment has not yet come. Scripture gives a surprising answer. God is patient.

Through 2 Peter chapter 3, this sermon explains that God’s patience is intentional. He is not ignoring sin, nor is He slow to act. Instead, He is giving people time to repent and return to Him. The delay of consequences is not proof that everything is okay. It is evidence of God’s mercy and kindness.

This message also warns about the danger of presuming on God’s patience. We often convince ourselves there will always be more time. Yet Scripture reminds us that life moves quickly, judgment is real, and God’s patience is meant to lead us toward transformation now, not later.

    Key Themes:

    • God’s patience flows from His desire for repentance
    • Delayed judgment does not mean sin is ignored
    • Mercy removes judgment while patience delays it
    • Assuming we always have more time is spiritually dangerous
    • God’s kindness is meant to draw us back to Him

  • God Revealed (Week 4) God is Faithful
    2026/05/03

God does not change, even when everything else does.

In this message, John Gunter continues the God Revealed series by focusing on the faithfulness of God. Through Lamentations chapter 3, we are reminded that faith is not built on circumstances. It is built on who God is.

Even in moments of deep pain, loss, and uncertainty, the writer chooses to remember. God’s love never ceases. His mercies are new every morning. His faithfulness remains steady.

This sermon challenges us to shift from reacting to our situation to remembering God’s character. While people fail and plans fall apart, God does not lie, does not change, and does not abandon His people. Even when we are weak or inconsistent, He remains faithful.

    Key Themes:

    • Faith is choosing to remember who God is
    • God’s faithfulness is not based on our circumstances
    • We often project our inconsistency onto God
    • God remains faithful even when we struggle
    • Trusting God brings stability in unstable seasons

  • God Revealed (Week 3) God is Merciful
    2026/04/27

God does not give us what we deserve. He gives us mercy.

In this message, John Gunter continues the God Revealed series by exploring the mercy of God. While we often think in terms of fairness and what we deserve, Scripture reveals something greater. God is merciful, gracious, slow to anger, and full of steadfast love.

Through passages like Exodus 34 and the story of the prodigal son, we see a God who does not wait for perfection. He runs toward those who turn back to Him. He restores what was broken and offers forgiveness that is not earned.

This sermon also reminds us that God’s mercy is not a one time act. His mercies are new every morning. Because of Jesus, we can approach God with confidence, knowing He understands our struggles and meets us with grace.

    Key Themes:

    • God’s mercy flows from His character, not our performance
    • We often want justice for others and mercy for ourselves
    • The prodigal son reveals the heart of God toward sinners
    • Mercy is renewed daily, not limited by our failures
    • True response to mercy is a transformed life

    📖 Scriptures: Exodus 34:6–7, Psalm 103:8, Luke 15:11–24, Lamentations 3:22–23, Hebrews 4:15–16, Titus 3:4–7
