It was his obsessive attention to the details everyone else considered beneath them. His first lesson for every new UCLA player wasn't about shooting or defense. It was about how to put on a pair of socks. Folds cause blisters, blisters slow you down, and Wooden wasn't willing to leave that to chance. Same principle applied to shoe fit and lace tying. Every small thing had a direct line to performance.
