Echt zo grappig om terug te lezen.Haha, no, even better! My old primary school report cards. So funny to read them back.Maarten: Oh, dat is leuk. Had je goede cijfers?Oh, that's nice. Did you have good grades?Lisa: Nou, voor tekenen en taal wel. Maar voor rekenen... oei. Altijd een zesje. Of lager. Gaat lekker.Well, for drawing and language, yes. But for math... ouch. Always a six. Or lower. Going great.Maarten: Ja precies. Iedereen had wel zo'n vak, denk ik. Ik vond geschiedenis altijd een beetje saai.Yeah, exactly. Everyone had a subject like that, I think. I always found history a bit boring.Lisa: Echt? Ik vond dat juist interessant! Oh wacht, ik zie hier het laatste rapport van groep 8. Met het advies voor de middelbare school.Really? Weet je nog welk advies je kreeg?That's an important moment. Do you remember what advice you got?Lisa: Ja, havo/vwo-advies. Ik vraag me af of de leraar dat toen moeilijk vond om te geven.Yes, havo/vwo advice. I wonder if the teacher found it difficult to give that back then.Maarten: Dat kan soms lastig zijn, ja. Nu als leraar kijk ik naar de resultaten van een kind over een lange periode. En we hebben natuurlijk de eindtoets.That can sometimes be tricky, yes. Now, as a teacher, I look at a child's results over a long period. And of course, we have the final test.Lisa: Oh ja, de Cito-toets heette dat bij ons. Die was zó spannend. Ik weet niet meer of ik die goed had gemaakt.Oh yes, that was called the Cito test for us. That was so exciting. I don't remember if I did well on it.Maarten: Die toets is belangrijk, maar het advies van de leraar is belangrijker. Weet jij nog hoe groot die school voelde?Yes, that's true. And then you go to the first year of secondary school. Do you remember how big that school felt?Maarten: Zeker. Van een kleine, veilige basisschool naar een enorm gebouw met honderden andere leerlingen. Dat was wel even wennen.Definitely. From a small, safe primary school to an enormous building with hundreds of other students. That took some getting used to.Lisa: Precies! En dan moest je kiezen. Vmbo, havo of vwo. Ik vond dat best een grote beslissing.Exactly! And then you had to choose. Vmbo, havo or vwo. I thought that was quite a big decision.Maarten: Eigenlijk wel. Het bepaalt wel een beetje je toekomst. Maar gelukkig kun je in Nederland vaak nog wisselen van niveau als het te makkelijk of te moeilijk is.It really is. It does determine your future a bit. But luckily, in the Netherlands, you can often still switch levels if it's too easy or too difficult.Lisa: Dat is wel goed geregeld. Stel je voor dat je op het verkeerde niveau zit. Lijkt me echt niet leuk.That's well-arranged. Imagine being at the wrong level. That really doesn't seem fun to me.Maarten: Nee, daarom is dat advies aan het einde van de basisschool ook zo belangrijk. De leraar kent de leerling vaak al jaren.No, that's why that advice at the end of primary school is so important. The teacher often knows the student for years.Lisa: Mijn leraar in groep 8 was meneer De Wit. Een hele aardige man.
