  • Episode 4: Autism - Coaching and Sensory Accommodations
    2025/12/13

This week our articles are focused on autism. The first continues on from last week's theme of occupational performance coaching. It specifically explores occupational based coaching with primary caregivers of autistic children. The second article is one I found particularly interesting. Ben Sasson and colleagues have explored the changes to day to day life that families make when children have sensory needs. Remember, if you would like to receive the links to the articles and the show notes, you can join the EPBOT mailing list here.

  • Episode 3: Occupational Performance Coaching (OPC)
    2025/11/29

Welcome to the EBPOT podcast. The podcast is designed to help paediatric occupational therapists stay up to date with the latest publications in the world of OT. It's great additional to your CPD portfolio.

Today our focus is two articles presenting results from treatment studies exploring the use of occupational performance coaching. Both articles I'm presenting today are from studies completed in the UK. Both used online delivery models. The first used a one to one approach and the second used a group coaching format.

For those unfamiliar with OPC, it's a collaborative, strengths-based coaching approach that focuses on three key domains: Connect, Structure, and Share. The core idea is that instead of doing things TO families, we work WITH them to help them solve their own problems through guided reflection and collaborative analysis. OPC has been developed by Fi Graham at Otago University. There is a clear fidelity measure which helps people using OPC to know whether they are adhering to the core principles of OPC or not.

  • Episode 2: Canadian Occupational Performance Measure
    2025/11/15

Welcome to the EBPOT podcast. The podcast is designed to help paediatric occupational therapists stay up to date with the latest publications in the world of OT. It's great fortnightly additional to your CPD portfolio.

Today's EBPOT podcast topic is the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. The reason I wanted to review these articles early on in the podcast is because many of the research studies that I will be reviewing use the COPM as an outcome measure. There is a long hold belief that a change of 2 points in the clients post invention scoring is clinically significant. The articles that I'm reviewing today question this belief. The first is a scoping review that tried to identify the source of this claim. The second article is a recently published systematic review which explores the use of the COPM research.

  • Episode 0: Introduction to the EBPOT podcast with Kim Griffin
    2025/10/14

Welcome to the EBPOT (Evidence-Based Paediatric Occupational Therapy) podcast. I'm Kim Griffin, a paediatric occupational therapist and your host. My goal with this podcast and newsletter is to make recently published evidence in the occupational therapy literature easily accessible to paediatric occupational therapists, particularly those working in schools.

The podcast focuses on recently published research evidence relevant to school-based paediatric occupational therapists. I'll prioritise topics most applicable to mainstream school settings:

    • Self-regulation and sensory needs
    • Autism and dyspraxia/DCD
    • Fine motor skills and handwriting
    • Daily living skills and other functional skills
    • General practice trends from adult literature with paediatric relevance

This episode gives you a little bit of background to Kim and also discusses how Kim chooses the articles and curates the EPBOT podcast.
