Dr. Jean, The Results Queen® continues her Dealing with Difficult People series with The Yes Person.

What happens when someone says yes to everything, even when they can't realistically deliver?

The Yes Person often has good intentions. They want to help, make people happy, and avoid disappointing others. But constantly saying yes can lead to overcommitment, missed deadlines, competing priorities, and frustration for everyone involved.

Dr. Jean explores how leaders can recognize this behavior and respond without simply adding more pressure. She explains why understanding someone's communication style matters, how blending, redirecting, and backtracking can improve difficult conversations, and why curiosity is often more effective than confrontation.

For leaders, the goal isn't to stop the Yes Person from being helpful. It's to help them become more realistic about their commitments, clarify priorities, and follow through on what they've agreed to do.

A yes isn't valuable if the person can't actually deliver on it.

Great leaders help people move from automatically agreeing to everything toward making thoughtful, realistic commitments they can actually keep.

Think about the Yes People on your team, or whether you might be one yourself.

Before saying yes to the next request, ask:

What am I already committed to, where does this fit in my priorities, and can I realistically deliver what I'm promising?

A thoughtful yes is much more valuable than an automatic one.
