Hospital Time teaches you patience. ICU Time teaches you endurance.
The first full day after my mom was placed on a ventilator was an endless cycle of waiting, hoping, and bracing for whatever came next. Every decision depended on a CT scan. Every small victory came with another setback. And every hour reminded me just how fragile recovery can be.
In this episode of The Wicked Daughter, I share what it's really like to spend a day in the ICU—celebrating a hand squeeze, watching a failed attempt to remove the ventilator, accepting help from friends when I finally admit I couldn't do it all alone, and discovering that even hope can be exhausting.
By the end of the day, I was emotionally drained, physically spent, and left wrestling with a feeling every caregiver knows but few talk about: the guilt that can follow the smallest act of taking care of yourself.
If you've ever loved someone through an ICU stay, this episode is for you.
