June 23, 2026: It was only a few weeks ago that we were discussing just how unusual it was for a league with 18 teams to not have any coaching changes. Yet here we are in late June with a surprise departure from Michigan’s head coach, Dusty May, who leaves to join the Dallas Mavericks. Reportedly, assistant coach Mike Boynton, Jr. will become the interim coach for the team this season.

While the circumstances for Michigan’s head man leaving Ann Arbor weren’t entirely shocking to us, the timing certainly came as a surprise. Word was out that he had a contract extension all ready to be signed in April but strangely they were going to wait until July to get it done. Whether the delay was due to May waiting to see what jobs were available or if that was the UM athletic department’s decision is not yet clear. We discuss what this means for their program and some of the factors leading up to May’s decision.
