- The Meridian Cross is a 31-foot sloop that left Corpus Christi Marina on April 3, 2019, bound for Clearwater, Florida (about 700 miles).
- At 7:15 AM on April 17, 2019, Patricia Christensen found the sloop drifting southeast at 0.5 knot with a mast laid flat and three inches of bilge water.
- A dry-bag sealed under the forward berth contained a logbook that had absorbed no salt despite every other surface being salt-soaked.
- On April 8, a squall produced sustained winds of 44 knots and seas of six to eight feet; the autopilot drive pin sheared and Chad hand-steered for nine hours.
- The mast came down at 9:17 AM on April 8 when a starboard shroud toggle failed, and the vessel ended up 91 miles from its planned route.
