Selina Kyle is left deep in debt by her father. Her solution is to create the Catwoman persona and become a jewel thief. A local museum in Gotham is showcasing the jewelry of the city's most famous citizens, including Martha Wayne's famous pearls. When Bruce overhears someone insulting his mother, he punches them. He is then sentenced to therapy with Harleen Quinzel.

Then a bit later, the Gotham Police Department sets up some situations to attempt to draw out Batman. They don't seem to be thankful for the fact that this man is helping to keep the city safer.
